Most people use their vehicles throughout the year. Some use their vehicle as their main form of transport on a daily basis whilst for others it’s a weekend necessity. No matter how, when, or where you are using your vehicle here is a useful guide to maximising your vehicle's efficiency.
1. How do I protect the DPF?
Vehicles with a Diesel Particular Filter aren’t intended for short journeys at low revs. Using a DPF treatment, under the guidance of an experienced technician, will ensure the best combustion of the fuel, reducing soot formation by allowing soot to be burnt off at a lower temperature within the DPF. The treatment will overall reduce the contaminants throughout the turbo and EGR system. It is recommended to use a treatment every 1250 miles. The DPF protection treatments will help to avoid downtime and costly repairs.
2. Fuel treatments
We have seen the positive results for ourselves in our own vehicles since SWS was first established in 1999. Whether it’s our work van that we use constantly every day (and yes, we do rack up a huge weekly mileage) or personal use in the variety of cars we have owned over the years. We know our vehicles run more smoothly and can feel it. The fuel treatments have long lasting effects and are proven to lower emissions and increase mileage -more MPG is what everyone likes to hear!!
In every vehicle, no matter where you purchase the fuel or what grade of fuel you are using, there is always a gradual build up of non-combustible by products such as carbonaceous deposits. Over time these can build up in fuel injectors and the spray pattern is no longer misting. This results in a loss of engine performance, increased emissions, hard starts and less MPG. A diesel injector cleaner or carburetor cleaner will make a immediate difference to the drivability of your vehicle. Using a professional in-tank fuel treatment means the fuel system can be cleaned in a safe way that is affordable, avoiding costly repairs.
3. Oil improvers.
Further reduction in friction can be achieved by adding extra ingredients such as Molybdenum Disulfide or ceramic additives. The oil improvers have numerous benefits such as some fill in microscopic fractures in the surfaces and reduce metal on metal contact.
Liqui Moly’s Cera Tec is one of our best-selling lines, its held the top spot since 2017. A premium ceramic based oil improver that has potential to improve MPG by 35% and has the properties to reduce friction within the engine up to 75%.
Another popular product are the viscosity index improvers, once added they allow fluid to flow more freely at a lower temperature, so oil can quickly reach the bearings where it’s needed the most.
Improving the functioning of the engine and offering protection of the moving parts by reducing mechanical friction, sticking valves are released, the engine temperature is stabilized, oil pressure is held consistent and the engine could benefit from a reduction in noise. Further lubrication is of a further benefit and At Southwest Workshop Supplies we stock a selection of oil improvers which include hydraulic valve lifter treatments, stop smoke, power steering stop leak, gear box and transmission additives
Why put clean oil in a dirty engine? Using an engine flush is an option that will clean unwanted deposits, varnish, and sludge from a dirty engine, do this before the oil change. A clean engine with new oil will perform better, increasing MPG, reduce friction and run a more efficient engine. Flushing improves the compression allowing the properties of the new oil to perform at its best because it has contact with all the clean surfaces now the dirt has been removed.
5. Manufactured approved oils.
Engine oil is created from a base oil (made from crude oil or synthetic oil) the development of the oil after this initial stage is what makes Liqui Moly produce one of the finest ranges of oils on the market. Liqui Moly has taken the extra step of achieving a full range of approvals from the leading manufacturers so of course they want to shout about being this years F1 official sponsor to proudly promote they are market leader. The high spec oil includes the finest ingredients and will lubricate the engine, flowing at a consistent viscosity rate through a broad range of temperatures. Using a manufactured approved oil will not invalidate the warranty of the vehicle and the premium driving experience will continue. Get into the habit of checking your oil weekly or monthly depending on usage
